Imagine your toe nails had not been trimmed in 6 months. Imagine they grew downwards, pushing your toes upwards and affecting the way you carry your weight. You must alter your gate, you can feel the affects in your muscles, all the way to your spine …. It doesn’t sound nice does it?
This is how your dog might feel when his nails go overgrown. Dogs nails should not hit the ground when he is standing still. If they do, they are overgrown. Now, here is the clincher, Unfortunately dogs have a blood and nerve channel in the nail called “the Quick”. If the nails are left to themselves the quick will usually grow as the nails grow. (Not the case with the photograph example). This means your vet or groomer can’t take them back to where they need to be in one trim. Why? Because the quick will bleed and it would hurt, A LOT!
Thankfully, there is a way to solve the problem.
We have successfully pushed the quick back with many of our clients by trimming the nails closely and regularly (not too close – no bleeding or pain). We do it every two weeks and then every month, then as and when necessary.
The result is a much more comfortable, happier and more mobile dog!
Nail trims are included in most of our packages. For drop ins, we even include a spritz of cologne. No appointment necessary!
Celebrating the fact we are now open 6 days per week!

We will be walking from Galway City to Bubbles and Barks (about 7.5kms) and we would like to invite you and your dogs to join us. I have set a goal to raise €1000, don’t aim high, and you won’t get close!
This is a challenge guys so I will be doing the walk in fancy dress! You are all invited to join in the theme but the main goal is to raise money.
I have set up an official donation page through Today FM which I will ask you to donate to and I would ask that you tell your friends to donate there as well. If we all raised even €20 each we would be at the goal in no time.
I have provisionally booked Sunday 24th from 2pm as our walk day. Leaving from The Swamp. We will have tea and coffee waiting for us at Bubbles and Barks and we can let all the dogs have a little social at the beach afterward. Please join the Facebook Event linked below as the dates and times may change.
Thanks for reading and I hope you can join us on the day and help us to raise as much money as possible.

We want your dog to be happy and healthy so in future we will only include anal gland expression if requested and deemed necessary. A service charge of €10 will apply.
After having discussed this topic with our local veterinary offices we think this is the best policy going forward. We would recommend only requesting that the glands be checked if your dog has been dragging its bottom or if it’s been licking the area. This would be a sign of a bit of difficulty in releasing the fluids from the glands. Expressing glands unnecessarily can cause weakness of the muscles meaning continued intervention may be required. It can also lead to inflammation and infection.
We will be happy to check and express anal glands on request and if the right circumstances apply for the fee of €10. Please request the add on service at check in.
